With great pleasure, we welcome all of you to the 2nd USM Penang International Postgraduate Convention (PIPgC) 2008. The idea for the convention was thought by The Honourable Vice Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia Professor Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak and was suggested to be an annual event organized by
postgraduate

students
of the university. It is to enable all postgraduate conferences to converge and be held concurrently.
Following the success of past, 2ND Penang International Postgraduate Convention (PIPgC) 2008 will be held on 18-20 June 2008 and will consist of
four main conferences:
1) 2ND Health and Medical Sciences Conference (HMSC)
2) 4TH Life Sciences Postgraduate Conference (LSPC)
3) 2ND Penang International Conference for Young Chemists (ICYC)
4) 1ST International Conference on Social Sciences and
Humanities (ICoSSH )
Befitting the theme of the convention, ‘Chemical Biology: Innovative Exploration of New Horizons in Science’, the convention aims to provide postgraduate students from this region and throughout the world the opportunity to meet, share, and exchange ideas about research and science in general. It will be an excellent platform for students to present their research findings from their respective fields of study, and also to grant them an overview of the multitudes of research conducted by their peers in the many disciplines of science in different parts of the world.
In a nutshell, the launching of the 2nd PIPgC 2008 is expected to expose young Malaysian scientist to world class research during this era of globalization, in line with our Prime Minister’s vision to lead Malaysia towards greater heights in the eyes of the world. The 2nd PIPgC 2008 is hoped to contribute toward the assimilation of young researchers from various field of research and generate fresh, practical ideas for future research.
