For the first time ever, schools from Social Sciences and Humanities fields have taken the unprecedented step in combining forces during the 2nd Penang Postgraduate Convention to organize the International Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities 2008 (ICoSSH’08).

 

This is hoped to bring about changes for greater global sharing that provide progressive governance of nations, sustainable growth in every field and advancements in innovations to strengthen the economic, social and political culture of the future. ICoSSH’08 will witness some prominent steps that will be taken to facilitate this inter-disciplinary sharing. In the spirit of this interdisciplinary sharing, the ICoSSH’08 accords a challenging, yet exciting forums to widen the academics atmosphere and networking for this noble purpose.

 

This conference covers a broad spectrum of areas in the humanities, social, art and applied sciences. This conference is aimed to Postgraduate students and academicians from various higher institutions throughout the world, researchers and scientists from various research centers and the private sectors.

The USM PIPgC 2008 is very honored to have the acceptance of Academician Tan Sri Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr. Augustine Ong Soon Hock and Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr Liew Choong-Chin, the very distinguish and our very own homegrown all-rounder achievers to be our keynote speakers.

Academician Tan Sri Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr. Augustine Ong Soon Hock is a graduate of University of Malaya (B. Sc. Hons. First Class, M.Sc.) and University of London King’s College (Ph. D. in Organic Chemistry). He was serving as Dean, School of Chemical Sciences, University Science Malaysia before joining the private sector where he was the former Director-General of the Palm Oil Research Institute of Malaysia (PORIM) from 1987 to 1989 and former Director in Science and Technology, Malaysian Palm Oil Promotion Council (MPOPC).  

Choong-Chin Liew was born in Malaysia, educated in Malaysia and Singapore and received his PhD in pathological chemistry from the University of Toronto, Canada. He is the co-founder, director and Chief Scientist of GeneNews Limited,  and currently leading the research efforts of GeneNews to further develop the Sentinel PrincipleTM, that was recognized in 2006 with the Frost and Sullivan North American Technology Innovation of the Year Award in the field of genetic biomarkers.
