Introduction
Recent media exposure on the consequences of global warming has sparked an interest and awareness on the importance of taking care of our environment. Although most European Countries and other developed nations have been incorporating the concept of life cycle thinking and sustainable development in their manufacturing industries for many years, this concept is still relatively new in this region. By bringing this training program here from the Netherlands, we hope that more people in the industries would be able to understand the importance of life cycle thinking and be able to assess the impact of their products to the environment.
What is LCA?
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a tool for the systematic evaluation of the environmental impacts of a product or service system through all stages of its life cycle. It is also known as the ‘cradle-to-grave’ approach.
The goal of LCA is to compare the full range of environmental damages assignable to products and services, to be able to choose the least burdensome one. The term 'life cycle' refers to the notion that a fair, holistic assessment requires the assessment of raw material, production, manufacture, distribution, use and disposal, including all intervening transportation steps necessary or caused by the products existence. The sum of all those steps - or phases - is the life cycle of the product. The concept also can be used to optimize the environmental performance of a single product
(ecodesign) or to optimize the environmental performance of a company.
Who Should Attend
Directors, Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Managers and Engineers, Policy-makers, Design and product Engineers, Production Engineers, Process Engineers, Academics and Researchers.

Course Instructor
This course will be conducted by an expert in the field of LCA; Mr. Mark
Goodkoep, Managing Director of Pré Consultants, the Netherlands. Mark holds a MSc Industrial design engineering at Delft University of Technology (1993). He worked as independent Design consultant until 1990, when he moved his focus to the field of
ecodesign. In the process he established Pré consultants (1990) and pioneered the field of
LCA. Pré has become a well established LCA (lifecycle assessment) consultancy with partners in many parts of the world. His focus is and was the development of practical, yet scientifically sound tools to improve the environmental performance of products and services.
