The current rate of urbanization and industrialization has caused a rise in environmental issues, involving environmental mismanagement which has been associated with unforeseen global catastrophes. The problems are further aggravated with environmental degradation such as soil erosion, depletion of water resources, and loss of flora and fauna. Proper waste management, pollution control and prevention are essential to alleviate these problems. In order to meet these multifaceted challenges, proper planning, implementation and verification exercises are required, via an integrated, multi-disciplinary and holistic approach.

The Environmental Technology Division of the School of Industrial Technology, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang is pleased to invite original scientific papers for oral or poster presentation in the International Conference on Environmental Research and Technology 08 (ICERT 08). This conference provides a useful forum for interaction and exchanging research ideas/experience among engineers, technologists, academicians, technical executives and entrepreneurs of various disciplines from academic institutions, industry and organization in the related fields.
