Work in this laboratory is concerned
with various aspects of research concerning the preparation/synthesis
and characterisations of composite materials namely:
(i) Organic-Inorganic composite materials from natural rubber
and metal alkoxides – Organic-inorganic composite
materials from liquid natural rubber and various metal alkoxides
using sol-gel process. The materials prepared form transparent
colored films which demonstrate the combined properties
of glass and rubber.
(ii) Biomaterials through chemical modifications of starch
- Esterification of rice and sago starch as coating and
packaging materials.
(iii) The synthesis and modifications of liquid crystal
compounds.
