Research Topic Pharmacoeconomics of Tuberculosis Treatment
Project Summary Clinical economics (pharmacoeconomics) is a new field concerned with description and analysis of costs of drug therapy to healthcare systems and society. This research concentrates on a branch of pharmacoeconomics studies, called cost of illness that took tuberculosis disease as a base for the study; in which calculate; direct medical cost as the cost of hospitalization, physician visits, medical officers visits, prescription medication, diagnostic laboratory tests, X-ray films, cost of equipment and supplies and cost of time taken by other healthcare workers. Indirect medical cost includes cost of transportation to and from Penang Hospital, cost of estimated consumption of buildings, vehicles and other furniture during this period, telephone bills, electric bills and water bills. Indirect cost; time lost due to illness or disability. Intangible costs that include cost of pain, suffering and anxiety are excluded. Calculation of all costs according to societal perspective.
