Each student will be allocated an academic staff who will serve as the student's academic advisor for the entire duration of the student's study at the School. The academic advisor has to advise on course registration and monitor the students' academic progress. Students are urged to discuss with their respective academic advisors on any problems they may face.


In line with the University's effort to become a center of excellence, one of its primary goal is to instill qualities amongst students that will eventually develop them to be capable of contributing towards his/her own personal achievement and society's prosperity. With that in mind the University is very concerned about student facing academic problems.

MENTOR

Mentor system is primarily to assist and advise student under supervision. A mentor can be a lecturer, instructor, teacher, graduate and whoever is interested in helping students to overcome studying problems.

Mentor activities are organized by the Deputy Dean.

Function of a Mentor

  1. To overcome academic problems faced by students.
  2. To assist students overcome personal problems which may hinder the student's academic performances.
In order to carry out the duties effectively, the mentor can make use of the facilities which are readily available at the University such as Academic Advisory System, assistance from the teaching/learning and counseling unit and hostel head. The relationship between a mentor and a student can be depicted as follows:

                            
Organization Structure

In order to start off the mentor system effectively, the organization structure is designed in two categories:

  • At the University level, a student counseling coordination committee is chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students Affair) and the membership comprising of the Deputy Deans and Hostel Heads. The counseling unit acts as secretariat.
  • The duties are to determine the policies such as objectives, selection, counseling duties, skill training, counseling, honorarium, coordination of the progress of counseling.
  • At the school level, the committee consists a Chairman (Deputy Dean of the School) and various members (mentors). The duties are to assist the mentors to perform their duties as discussed above.
