Whilst in School, it is mandatory for pharmacy students to complete
a period of practical training known as `externship' in pharmaceutical
organizations. The purpose of this training is to enable the students
to be familiar with how pharmacy is being practiced in real situation.
It is conducted in stages with effect from second year.

"Hands-on"
experience of an operation of a community pharmacy at the Pharmacy
Center, University of Science Malaysia.
Level
300
Familiarization
by visiting a private pharmaceutical industry for a week during the
inter-semester break.
Level
400
Training will
be carried out in retail pharmacy outlets during the long vacation.
ALLOWANCE
Students undertaking
externship program will have to bear his/her own expenses. JPA scholarship
holders are not given any allowance during their externship.
MARA loan/scholarship
holders can apply for allowance during the long vacation. However,
MARA loan holders have to repay these allowances besides the amount
of loan that was given to them. Other loan/scholarship holders have
to check with the respective loan/scholarship body in relation to
payment of allowance.
