COMEC

COMEC is the acronym for Communication Makes Changes, a group of final year Persuasive Communication students of the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). This year COMEC proudly collaborates with Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and Jabatan Keselamatan USM in organizing a campaign officially known as ‘Kempen Rakan Trafik@USM’ or USM Traffic Partners Campaign 2010.

WHAT DO WE DO?

Kempen Rakan Trafik@USM will adopt the non-direct strategy that focus on the social and peer environment rather than the drivers themselves in promoting safe driving behaviors among USM students and staffs.

INTRODUCTORY

The born of KRT@USM in year 2009 is greatly due to the need of the society in understanding the involvement of young motorists in road accidents is one of the major road safety issues in Malaysia. The young motorists’ issues have gained significant attention from scholars and researchers in road safety, due to the fact that this group of population are showed to be substantially involved in many fatal and injury accidents compared to the older and more experienced motorists.

OBJECTIVES

The project, which integrates the essential components of research, campaign, intervention and post-campaign evaluation aims to provide holistic understanding of the attributes and characteristics of the high risk young motorists; to suggest, plan and implement specific intervention programs. Specifically, to promote five road safety behaviors namely turning without signal, improper usage of helmet, mobile phone usage during driving, driving without wearing seat belt and turning without stopping at junction.
