Graduate Assistantship and Fellowship Schemes

The University provides financial assistance to a number of higher degree candidates who are Malaysian Citizens under the graduate Assistantship and Fellowship Schemes. A candidate who is successful under these schemes will be provided fee and a monthly allowance as follows:

Graduate Assistantship Scheme
(i) RM 900.00   -   Master's Degree
(ii)RM1,100.00  -  Ph. D. Degree

Fellowship Scheme
(i) RM1,300.00   -   Master's Degree
(ii)RM1,500.00   -   Ph. D. Degree

Candidates are required to assist in teaching., demonstration and research activities that are assigned by the University and the work load assigned shall not exceed six hours a week.

Special Scholarship Scheme
To encourage research in the areas of Science and Technology (i.e. advanced manufacturing, advanced materials, biotechnology, micro-electronics, information technology and energy), the Malaysian Government provides a special grant under the Special Scholarship Scheme for Malaysian Postgraduate students. Master's and PH.D. students appointed under the Special Scholarship Scheme will be given monthly allowance of RM1,300.00 and RM1,500.00 respectively and exempted from fee payments.

Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme
Postdoctoral Fellowships are available for locals as well as foreigners. Postdoctoral Fellowships are granted to outstanding candidates with the intention of making significant contribution to new knowledge and new findings in basic and applied research. Then monthly allowance given ranges from RM1,8000.00 to RM4,00.00.

Teaching Company Scheme
This scheme encourages links between companies (in Malaysia) and universities by providing financial support up to RM200,000 over 3 years to postgraduate students and supervisors for supervising high caliber graduates on projects design to improve company's performance through research into the introduction of latest methods and technologies available in the universities.

*Fees for candidates appointed under these schemes will be paid by the grants concerned.

* Universiti Sains Malaysia does provide a limited number of foreign students intending to pursue their higher degree in this University with financial assistance in the form of research assistantships.
