Visa and Student Pass:

A foreign student must possess a legal/valid travel document (passport) which covers the period of study in Malaysia. Upon confirmation of the student's acceptance of the offer to do postgraduate studies, USM will make the application to obtain the student pass. A foreign student can only come to Malaysia after been informed by USM that the application for the student pass has been approved by the Immigration Department. Immigration rules require that a student inform USM of the flight schedule, as our officer will be meeting the student upon arrival at either Penang International Airport or Ipoh or Kota Bharu Airport. The student pass can be collected at the Immigration Department after arrival in Malaysia./ The fee for the student pass is RM60.00 per year. A student who is accompanied by a spouse and children will have to apply the social pass on their own at the Immigration Department. Malaysian currency is ringgit (RM), and the exchange rate in USD is RM3.80 equivalent to US$1.00.
